• Local antibiotics such as Neosporin® may cause local allergic reactions and can potentially worsen the ulcer.
  • A water-absorbent dressing, such as Duoderm®, can help reduce drainage and improve comfort.
  • A snug-fitting leg support, such as Circaid® or elastic compression stockings, may help promote healing of venous ulcers. Always follow your doctor’s specific recommendations regarding compression use.
  • Clean the ulcer at least once daily with soap and water, then apply a water-absorbent or non-irritating dressing as directed.
  • If purulent drainage (pus) develops, contact your home health nurse or physician promptly.
