Chief Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Velkeda McCain, BS, MHA, RVT, is a highly skilled vascular and cardiac sonographer with over 12 years of experience in diagnostic medical ultrasound. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Alcorn State University and her Master of Health Administration from Louisiana State University. She completed her diagnostic medical sonography training at the Florida Institute of Ultrasound.

Velkeda began her ultrasound career in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2014, where she performed general, vascular, and echocardiography examinations while providing compassionate, high-quality care to a diverse patient population. Her strong clinical foundation and commitment to excellence allowed her to develop expertise across multiple ultrasound specialties.

In 2017, Velkeda returned to Mississippi and joined St. Dominic Hospital’s Mississippi Heart and Vascular Institute (MHVI) as a cardiac and vascular sonographer. While at MHVI, she worked closely alongside the physicians and staff of The Rane Center, performing specialized noninvasive vascular testing and echocardiography to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and venous disease.

She later joined Merit Health River Oaks, where she continued serving as a cardiac and vascular sonographer, further strengthening her clinical expertise and commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.

In 2026, Velkeda returned to The Rane Center as the Chief Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. In this leadership role, she is dedicated to advancing excellence in vascular imaging through quality assurance, clinical education, workflow optimization, and the delivery of exceptional patient-centered care. She works collaboratively with physicians and staff to ensure the highest standards of diagnostic accuracy while fostering a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Velkeda is passionate about improving patient outcomes through innovation, education, and excellence in noninvasive vascular diagnostics. Her combination of clinical expertise, leadership experience, and healthcare administration makes her a valued member of The Rane Center and the medical community.
